What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is an eye disease that can be managed, and its progress is slowed or halted with treatment.

Although glaucoma is a significant cause of visual disability and sometimes blindness, it is estimated approximately half of glaucoma sufferers in the community are undiagnosed. Glaucoma is underdiagnosed because, in most instances, there are no symptoms or reduced vision in the early stages.

Glaucoma Suspect: What You Need to Know

A glaucoma suspect is someone who has certain risk factors for glaucoma. While they may not have glaucoma, they are at a higher risk of developing it in the future.

Glaucoma is usually asymptomatic in early stages. A person with glaucoma can lose a significant amount of vision in one eye and be unaware. Regular monitoring of a glaucoma suspect allows the eye specialist to identify any signs of developing glaucoma and intervene promptly.
